Dear prospective students,
With my experience report, I would like to give you personal and practical insights into the distance learning Master's program in Business Education at Allensbach University (AH).
I have been working for a regional bank for over eight years now and currently work in process and project management. While working as a lecturer at a vocational academy, I discovered how much I enjoy teaching. Even during my training, I wanted to work as a vocational school teacher one day. However, a traditional full-time course of study was out of the question for me. I wanted to continue gaining valuable professional experience while remaining financially independent. My goal was therefore clear: to complete a Master's degree in Business Education while working, without having to take a break from work.
Why Allensbach University?
When searching for suitable courses, I quickly realized that there were very few options that were compatible with my goal. Theoretically, I could have started a full-time course at an on-campus university, but that would have meant giving up my job.
The decision in favor of the AH was ultimately made for three reasons:
- Firstly, it is currently the only university to offer a part-time Master's degree in Business Education.
- Secondly, I didn't have to study any additional pedagogical courses (from the Bachelor's degree), which saved me a lot of time.
- Thirdly, I was impressed by the flexibility. The study plan can be customized within the examination deadlines.
However, the decision to finally enrol for the Master's in Business Education was not an easy one. I had doubts as to whether I would be able to balance my job, free time and studies. I was afraid of what the workload would be like. Today, I can say that the amount of studying was easy to reconcile with my job (full-time 39 hours). Of course there were more intensive phases, for example in the weeks before exams, but there were also more relaxed periods. With good planning, there was still enough time for family, leisure and vacation.
How does the course work?
After registration, you will receive access to the online portals and the planned course schedule. The courses can also be activated individually in a different order. Courses are completed with an examination (e.g. term paper, submission, open book exam, presentation). Students register for examinations independently and at the desired time. Depending on the type of examination, there are fixed dates and registration deadlines. It is also possible to complete several examinations (one choice) in one month.
All information can be viewed very clearly at any time in the online portals. A big plus point was the support. Whether lecturers or the examinations office, communication was always uncomplicated and fast. The AH's unofficial WhatsApp group with other students was also worth its weight in gold. We were able to motivate each other there, clarify questions and make valuable contacts.
I found the mix of teaching materials particularly positive. In addition to detailed study letters, there were online lectures that could be attended live or followed up flexibly as recordings. This allowed me to adapt the learning rhythm to my professional situation.
Thanks to the flexible model, I was even able to complete my studies faster than the standard period of study (start 04/2024 end 08/2025), contrary to my previous concerns.
Tips
- Ask all personal questions in advance to the Student Advisory Service
- Consultation with the environment: how can they support the path?
- Realize your own learning type
- Define or delimit times for work, study and free time
- Find out the lecturers' requirements (only jump as high as you have to)
- Clarify financial support (e.g. scholarships, grants, etc.)
- Choose module sequence strategically and in line with personal preferences (e.g. difficult/time-consuming courses first)
- Use Study Support, don't be afraid to contact lecturers, the examinations office or other students. The support is excellent and often saves time and nerves!
What happens now?
I will start my traineeship in January 2026. The professional benefits of my studies will therefore be immediately apparent when I enter the next phase of my career. The part-time Master's degree at Allensbach University enabled me to lay the foundation for realizing my dream of becoming a vocational school teacher without having to sacrifice financial security.
Many thanks for the great support and guidance during this time. The AH made it possible for a dream to become a realistic and achievable goal.
