Romana Merkel on her path to a part-time distance learning master's degree in business education
Studying again in the middle of one's career sounds like a big step to many. Romana Merkel consciously took it. In an interview, she talks about what motivated her, why she chose Allensbach University, and what goals she is pursuing with the master's degree Business Pedagogics pursued through distance learning.
What motivated you to study again now?
I decided to pursue this degree because I want to advance my career and complement my previous experience with sound knowledge. It is important to me to better understand pedagogical and organizational contexts and to be able to act more reflectively in my daily work.
Why distance learning – and not on-campus study?
Distance learning fits well with my life situation because I can study flexibly and directly combine the content with my professional practice.
How did you hear about Allensbach University?
I became aware of Allensbach University through acquaintances who also studied there and had very positive experiences. Their feedback regarding student support, the structure of the degree program, and the compatibility with a professional career convinced me to take a closer look at the university.

How do you feel shortly before the start of your studies?
I am looking forward to my studies, even though I know it will be an additional challenge to juggle everything. At the same time, I see it as an opportunity to further develop my self-organization and to consciously make time for my personal and professional growth.
What do you expect from the university?
From the university, I expect reliable and easily accessible support as well as clearly structured learning materials. It is important to me that I receive prompt assistance when I have questions and that the content is designed so that I can easily integrate it into my daily professional life.
What particularly attracts you to business education?
I am interested in business education because it meaningfully combines economic and educational topics. I find it exciting to examine learning processes not only didactically, but also in the context of business operations.
What do you want to achieve with your studies?
With my studies, I want to expand my professional skills and qualify for tasks in which I can plan, accompany, and further develop educational processes. I expect the degree program to open up new perspectives for me and help me make more informed professional decisions.
What is your long-term career goal?
In the long term, I am aiming for a position where I can develop educational concepts and support people in their professional development.
